Ondo State Reconciliation and Development Committee sent a powerful delegation of three headed by its Chairman to attend the unique occasion in Idanre, in Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency of Ondo State. Other members of the delegation were Messrs Tunde Akinola and Gbenga Joseph Awe the Secretary and Zonal Coordinator respectively.
We saw with our own eyes how 150 women, irrespective of their political affiliation, religion or status were empowered to excel in small to mid-level businesses. Each of the traders or business women was given N20,000 (twenty thousand Naira) to boost her business with absolutely no strings attached.
The event was graced by dignitaries. Among them were the Owa of Idanre, Oba ( Dr)Frederic Adegunle Aroloye,(IV) (JP) OFR; The Awosunye Adunranjan Of Atosin Idanre, Oba Gilbert Olakunle Ogunlowo; the Alade– okun of Alade Idanre, Oba Olusengun Akinbola, while the MHR was immaculately but simply dressed as usual.
As the formal ceremony of empowering 150 women came to an end officially and another informal empowerment programme started all over. The new recipients lined up in their hundreds to receive cash gifts.
The beauty of the event is that the day’s memory will live forever in the hearts of the women as each went home smiling with N20,000 and another set of people, estimated at some 1,000 (one thousand) collected raw cash ranging from between N2,000 – N10,000 each.
From the joy and satisfaction in the faces of the people, including those who did not participate or collect cash, it was clear that our people are suffering and in dare need of help. It was also impressive that someone in person of Hon Adefisoye saw these needs and did something tangible to help. This is especially because a boost of N20,000 is all the world to tomato & pepper sellers, garri sellers or kolanut sellers.
After the event, guests were led by the MHR himself to a private area where he hosted them to sumptuous meals and drinks.
How I wish we have more MHRs, Senators and Governors in the Party and all with the smallAlhaji spirit.
This is why as a party, the SDP needs to work harder to produce and encourage more men and women like Hon. Oluyemi Tajudeen Adefisoye.
My joy was tripled when I got home and the LG Chairman of Ifedore, Hon Tosin Dinakin called to inform me that the women empowerment programme in another Local Government (Ifedore LG) has been commenced by Mr Kekereowo who released the special empowerment forms at the instructions of MHR Adefisoye.
This has been good news for us as a party and I pray the good Lord will continue to bless Small Alhaji.
Congratulations to the people of Idanre LG.
Congratulations to the Director General of Idanre LG, Mr Rotimi Akinde.
Congratulations to our MHR Adefisoye.
God bless SDP
