In this season, we are reminded of the extreme display of obedience and faith in Allah (SWT) by prophet Ibrahim when he was instructed in his dream to sacrifice Ismail his son to Him. Ibrahim trusted the good intention of Allah (SWT) and even though he loved his son dearly, he prepared himself to do this difficult thing for Allah (SWT).
Ibrahim told his son Ismail the instruction he received from Allah (SWT), refused entreaties from shaytan to disobey Allah, and uniquely Ismail agreed to be sacrificed. The Almighty Allah (SWT) the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful, the Only Owner of the Day of Recompense displayed His power for while Ibrahim’s blindfold was removed, he found that Allah (SWT) had provided a substitute in a ram.
As we celebrate Sallah, we should not forget the unique qualities of Ibrahim and Ismail who were obedient to their creator, virtues that are generally lacking in our generation. I wish all our Muslim members Barka de sallah; and all Nigerians an enjoyable Id El Kabir. May the the blessings of Allah (SWT) fill your lives with happiness and open doors of successes now and always. In celebration and consistent with Allah’s (SWT) injunction, we should remember the poor amongst us while also doing everything in moderation.
Barka de Sallah.
